29th birthday

Yesterday was my 29th birthday and it was a fabulous day! Started off at the Tea Garden for a Taro Chai Latte with Jake and Judy (no Chai Latte for Judy though) then we headed to Minnehaha Falls off-lease dog park and it so much fun! Judy chased a dog named Annie for 10 minutes! Paige picked me up for lunch at the Red Stag and Amanda surprised me by meeting us there! At my house later we all enjoyed the carrot cake Jake and I made the night before. We found a delicious receipe from Food to Live By, The Earthbound Farm Organic Cookbook. Then Jake and I went to the movie The Duchess. It was an exhausting day that didn't include my normal afternoon nap but that is fine by me! It just means more naps today! Peter's birthday is today so we are heading to the Chatterbox tonight for dinner to celebrate with family.

p.s. Did I mention that I went to a New Kids on the Block concert on Tuesday night?! Oh yeah!!! It was A.MAZ.ING!

pumpkins picked

Last Friday, as I sat on my back steps enjoying some caramel (and apples), I chatted with Gracie and Liam about what I was doing and what I was going to be doing.

Then I asked, "Do you want to help Jake and me pick out pumpkins like we did last year?"

"Let me ask my mom," as the door slammed shut behind her.

"Do I get to walk Judy?"  Of course you do!

Within minutes Jake, me, Gracie with Judy's leash wrapped around her wrist twice and Liam puttering behind, we were on our way over the three blocks to the house that has pumpkins for sale in their front yard.

With the pumpkins picked we headed home --- always an adventure and hopefully a new tradition!

judy herding

On Sunday we spent the day at Kinnic Creek farm watching bordie collies herd sheep and goats - it was amazing to watch! Jake and I have never seen this many border collies in one place and they were incredibily friendly and determined.

To herd.
To herd the sheep.

Judy was there for her first lesson to see if she had the herding instinct.

Here is the video of us in the pen with three sheep. Her barking did not stop after she got started --- she was a little anxious of these big white animals (definitely bigger than any squirrel she has seen!) and didn't quite know if she was suppose to chase them or what!

p.s. Beware of the sheep jumping into the fence - it looks horrible but the sheep was fine.

right now

With my new found freedom and housewifery I have been experimenting with how to spend my time --- cooking and baking (and sometimes not cleaning up); having bonfires in the backyard and eating smores; going to the dog park so Judy can have that sense of freedom and exploration that she so craves; oh and (sometimes) drinking margaritas and falling asleep in the living room listening to MSNBC. It has been wonderfully relaxing and weird at the same time.

But last night Jake and I ventured out of our house and drove to the Orpheum Theater in downtown Minneapolis for an exciting night out on the town. We had tickets to see Kathy Griffin LIVE (she is my definitely my favorite comedian and did not disappoint).

It was a great night out on the town but as soon as I got home to our warm little house and flipped on MSNBC, got a glass of milk and some Oreos, and fell asleep in the living room...I realized that life doesn't get much better than right now.

pizza on the farm

Pizza on the farm Tuesday night was amazing! Out under the stars eating, drinking, and talking -- what more can you ask for?!
