one form

I got a new drivers license this afternoon around three o'clock.

After taking my information I watched as she tossed my MN license on top of the pile into a tupperware container next to her computer.

I looked at the pile, I looked back at her and said, "Don't I get to keep that?" She informed me that in Iowa you are only allowed one form of identification. She didn't give it back.

I smiled for my new picture and wrote a check for twenty three dollars. A few minutes later I walked out the door with my new Iowa drivers license and a little different.

I was able to keep mine when I moved. They punched a hole in it. But that was several years ago. I imagine things have changed a great deal since then.

Thanks for commenting on my blog. Kite Runner is a powerful story.

I still haven't gotten a NY license - I flew home when it was time to get mine renewed!

My license got run over once (long story) and it ended up being the best conversation piece...I was disappointed to finally have to give it up but some places had stopped accepting it because it was so beat up!

They took my MN one in Illinois too. Sort of sad.

Oregon is the same way. I hope they shred the old ones or something.

Interesting point Anne...I wonder what would have happened? Would I have had to retake a test?! Ha!
